SCI Maritime Training Institute (MTI) is an integral part of The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. (SCI) – the largest Indian Shipping Company. SCI set up the MTI in 1988 to meet the training and re-training requirements of its shore and fleet personnel.

The same services are also extended to external participants in line with vision of the company and Government of India to become an advanced seafaring nation.

Since inception, SCI-MTI has developed many courses that have contributed to the Indian maritime industry. Innovative value added courses on safety and commercial aspects are being conducted as required by SCI and any other reputed companies. MTI has also conducted crash course on shipping management abroad for foreign clients. MTI provides a comprehensive range of courses (Pre-sea & Post-sea courses, STCW courses, and Value Added Courses) available to the personnel employed in the maritime industry, including SCI and other prominent Indian Companies.

It is also the Regional Centre for the TRAINMAR Programme of the UNCTAD. The Diploma in Nautical Science Course (DNS) course of the institute is affiliated to Indian Maritime University (IMU). Proudly, all pre-sea courses of MTI, Diploma in Nautical Science Course (DNS) and Graduate Mechanical Engineers Course (GME) are rated as A-1 (Outstanding) as per the CIP (Comprehensive Inspection Program) of the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) Government of India. SCI-MTI is Integrated Management System (IMS) certified, comprising of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 since December 2015.
