Maritime Training Institute (MTI) still continues to be the root of SCI, which when nourished well, provides strength and quality officers to flourish the SCI fleet. Following the ‘learn, unlearn and relearn’ approach to transform future in training; MTI keeps updating, commencing new courses in line with the Manning, Fleet & Shore personnel requirements, and Technological advancement, such as in the field of energy efficiency.
On demand of the industry, MTI has introduced many new courses, such as: Electro Technical Officers (ETO) Course, Second Mate (F.G.) Function Course, Radar Observer’s Course (ROC), Automatic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA), Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (P.S.C.R.B), Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) course, Re-validation Course for Master & other Deck officers and many others management courses Vertical Integration Course for Trainers (VICT), Assessment, Examination And Certification Of Seafarers (AECS) etc. Also commencing GP Rating Leading to 2nd Mate (NCV) from July 2024.
MTI consistently innovate its services, delivery, processes, and approaches to ensure best training to its participants. For same, efforts are made from time to time to focus on holistic development of a student or cadet and not just focusing on the academics.
MTI is also developing short duration courses for helping entrants in shipping industry understand the nitty-gritty of the operations and activities in shipping sector. These courses are also been marketed to companies, PSUs other than in maritime industry, such as HPCL, ONGC etc.
MTI is also regularly conducting Management Development Programmes (MDPs), Soft Skill based Workshops/Seminars for mid-level to senior level executives of Shipping companies and will be soon extending such programmes to organizations outside the maritime industry.
